By Secretary Cristina Dimaano (revised from Ronald Melvin Rosas' report last POST-E 2010)
Two days after the National Senatorial Election, campaign materials are still visible in most areas in the community. Candidates running for the position have the obligation of removing them but some failed to do so. Started from the 2010 Elections, the Rotaract Club of Los Baños brought again the POST-E (Post Election) Clean-Up Drive to somehow lessen the “election trash”.
Unlike last election year, the activity was conducted five days after the election. Now, after the reviews of the previous activity, we conducted the activity two days after the election for us to gather more campaign materials.
The group covered larger areas compared to the last POST-E activity. We started from the F.O. Santos Street, straight to Raymundo approaching LBNHS, around the Batong Malake Covered court, around the Muslim Mosque then back to Entom. We resumed it starting from the F.O. Santos straight to Lopez Avenue up to Agapita Plaza, continued up to Bangkal extension then back to Entom. All this great areas covered by only six members.
Problems encountered were the lack of equipments such as ladder, broomstick and dust pan. Another is the limited manpower we had. Fortunately, the member’s dedication never fails as we collected 4 garbage bags of campaign materials. It’s also a fortunate year as the COMELEC has limited the campaign materials and improved them by using tarpaulins or cloths unlike the stickers that were hard to remove.
After all the hard work, some expressed curiosity and gratitude towards our volunteerism. Some had voluntarily removed the campaign materials as they saw what we’re doing. Overall, it’s a worth it activity.
